Welcome! My name is Nicole Kliewer. I am currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy and the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology, and I will be joining Villanova University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science in Fall 2025. My primary research agenda focuses on campaigns, elections, Congress, and the role of the military in American politics. Prior to Carnegie Mellon University, I was a 2022-2023 APSA Congressional Fellow.

I study how military group membership and identity contribute to former service members’ political participation and characterize the long-term consequences of politicized military activity for civil-military relations. In my dissertation project, I used participant observations, survey experiments, text as data, and electoral returns to investigate the role of military service in political campaigns.

I received my Ph.D. and M.A. in Politics from Princeton University as well as a B.A. in Political Science and B.S. in International Affairs from Florida State University.
